Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor was reportedly threatened by a man in a balaclava near his new home on the Sandringham Estate in Norfolk while out walking his dogs.

The Telegraph reports that the former Duke of York was approached at around 7.30pm on Wednesday near his Marsh Farm home, where he has moved to following his eviction from Royal Lodge in Windsor.

It has been reported that the man in the balaclava had been sitting in his car when he saw the King's brother about 50 yards away. He then got out of his vehicle and made his way towards the former royal while shouting at him. It is understood that the incident occurred on public land in a lane near Sandringham Royal Park.

The former Duke of York, who was understood to be accompanied by a member of his private security team, ran towards his own car, which was parked nearby, and quickly drove away as the suspect allegedly tried to run after him.

Norfolk Police were contacted, and officers attended the scene, where they arrested a suspect and took him into custody for questioning. Police are also understood to have searched the man's vehicle for any sign of a weapon.

The Telegraph reports that Andrew, who they say was shaken by the incident, was asked to provide a statement, as was his personal protection officer.

While the King is personally funding Andrew's new home and move to Norfolk, it is understood that he has refused to foot the bill for his disgraced brother's private security after the late Queen withdrew his publicly funded personal protection team, which the Met Police provided, after he stepped back as a working royal in 2019.

A source told the paper: "This shows why Andrew's security provisions need to be proportionate and properly balanced for an individual with a very high profile. Surely this demonstrates why his security should be reviewed."

When contacted for comment, Norfolk Police said: "Officers were called to Wolferton shortly after 7.30pm yesterday (Wednesday 6 May 2026) following a report a man was behaving in an intimidating manner in the village. Officers attended, and the man was arrested on suspicion of a public order offence and possession of an offensive weapon. He was taken to King's Lynn Police Investigation Centre for questioning and remains in custody."

This latest incident comes as Andrew remains under investigation after his arrest on suspicion of misconduct in public office on his 66th birthday back in February. He was subsequently released under investigation after 11 hours at a Norfolk police station. He has always denied wrongdoing.

It also follows the news that his daughter, Princess Eugenie, is expecting her third child with husband, Jack Brooksbank.

Buckingham Palace has been contacted for comment.
