Xbox's new leadership is showing absolutely no signs of slowing down with yet more features announced to be coming to the console as early as next week.
It feels like we can barely go a week these days without Xbox CEO Asha Sharma announcing something new coming to the platform, and this week is no different. Shortly after revealing a slate of new logos for the platform, Sharma told fans on X that they can expect a new boot-up animation coming in an update next Wednesday.
"New boot up coming next Wednesday. Sound on!," her post reads. It's accompanied with a short four-second clip of the new boot-up screen, which shows the new frosted-glass Xbox logo paired with a shiny new sound.
This arrives shortly after brand new dynamic backgrounds and profile pictures came to the Xbox Series X|S consoles last week.
Sharma also announced this week that a new AutoSR feature is coming to Xbox ROG Ally consoles, which uses AI upscaling to provide better performance on games running on the portable hardware.
It all seems part of a big push for Xbox to turn itself around ahead of the next generation. In another post on May 5, Sharma wrote: "Xbox needs to move faster, deepen our connection with the community, and address friction for both players and developers.
"Today, we promoted leaders who helped build Xbox, while also bringing in new voices to help push us forward. This balance is important as we get the business back on track."
Sharma took over from previous Xbox CEO Phil Spencer after his 38-year tenure at Microsoft, and 25-year run at Xbox. While Spencer had earned himself a reputation of being a gamer himself, his leadership of the brand had seemingly taken a downward turn - at least where console sale numbers are concerned.
At the time of writing, Xbox Series X|S has sold a combined 28.3 million units compared to the PlayStation 5's 92.2 million. With such a huge gulf between the two, Sharma has a big job on her hands to turn the platform around, which is exactly what she seems to be doing with these fast and furious updates.
While they may seem small, they're laying the groundwork for Xbox's next console, Project Helix. Thought to be a gaming PC and console hybrid, we're expecting to see a closer look at the platform later today during Xbox's Developer Update.
