IPL 2026 Final Venue: The hosting of the final of IPL 2026 has gone out of the hands of Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB). As per protocol, last year's champion team gets to host the final and a playoff match at its home venue. In such a situation, RCB was the winning team of the last season, so the final was originally to be held in Bengaluru. But this time BCCI has given hosting of the final match to Ahmedabad, which is under question. But BCCI has given the big reason behind this decision.
Why did RCB lose the hosting of IPL 2026 final?
BCCI has cited the demand for complimentary tickets from Karnataka State Cricket Association (KSCA) as an important reason behind this decision. BCCI Secretary Devjit Saikia gave information on this matter on Thursday. He told that three venues have been decided for the IPL playoffs and finals. The first qualifier will be played in Dharamshala, the eliminator and the second qualifier match will be played in New Chandigarh. The final match will be held on May 31 at Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. Devjit Saikia said that as per IPL rules, the host association gets only 15% of the total seating capacity as complimentary tickets. But during league matches, KSCA had asked for more tickets than this.
The email from KSCA on May 2 demanded not only additional tickets over and above the 15% quota, but also 700 tickets for members, clubs, local MLAs (MLAs), Members of the Legislative Council (MLCs) and the Karnataka government. Overall, around 10,000 additional tickets were demanded over and above the 15% quota. BCCI made it clear that being the host body of the playoff and final matches, it cannot violate IPL rules. Therefore, a decision was taken to shift the matches from Bengaluru.
