Cooper Connolly Ton Goes in Vain as SRH Cruise Past Punjab Kings

Despite a century from Cooper Connolly, Sunrisers Hyderabad secured a 33-run victory in the IPL 2026 game against Punjab Kings on May 06 at Hyderabad.

A combined team effort and brilliant captaincy from Pat Cummins secured their massive win at home. By this win, SRH climbs to the top of the IPL 2026 points table.

After being invited to bat first, Abhishek Sharma and Travis Head opened the innings while Arshdeep Singh opened the bowling attack.

Despite an aggressive start from the openers, Lockie Ferguson brought the first breakthrough, dismissing Abhishek Sharma for 35 runs.

He got dismissed on a length delivery which he tried to hit on long off, but ended up slicing in the mid off where Shreyas Iyer took the catch.

With Travis Head and Ishan Kishan at crease, SRH posted 79 runs inthe powerplay. Yuzvendra Chahal bagged the wicket of Travis Head for 38 runs on a googly where the batter hit the balls to Jansen at Long on.

Heinrich Klaasen who came to bat at No.4, joined Ishan Kishan to anchor the innings. Their partnership has guided SRH to cross 150 run mark. Ishan Kishan smashed his fifty on 28 deliveries which included 2 fours and 4 sixes.

The duo made a 88-run partnership for the third wicket as Arshdeep Singh bagged the wicket of Ishan Kishan for 155 runs.

On the other hand, Heinrich Klaasen smashed his fifth fifty of the season as the side cross 200 run mark.

Nitish Reddy who came to bat at No. 5 also played brilliant shots as Sunrisers Hyderabad posted a

Heinrich Klaasen scored 69 while Nitish Kumar Reddy remained unbeaten with 29* runs off 13 deliveries. In the last delivery, Vijay Kumar bagged the wicket of Heinrih Klaasen as SRH scored 235 runs in their innings.

Arshdeep Singh, Lockie Ferguson, Vyshak Vijaykumar and Yuzvendra Chahal picked one wicket each for Punjab Kings.

Chasing a massive target, Priyansh Arya and Prabhsimran Singh opened the innings while, Pat Cummins opened the bowling attack.

Cummins got the first breakthrough dismissing Arya for 1 runs while Nitish Reddy bagged the wicket of Prabhsimran Singh for 3 runs.

Priyanshi Arya was got dismissed on full ball where he hit the ball in the deep square leg with Malinga taking a sharp catch.

Meanwhile, Prabhsimran Singh got dismissed on a leading edge toward cover where Pat Cummins took a brilliant catch.

With Shreyas Iyer’s dismissal for 5 runs, PBKS lost three wickets for 23 runs. Eshan Malinga bagged the wicket of Iyer on a off cutter as he sliced up in the air toward midoff and Cummins took a settled catch.

By the end of powerplay, Punjab Kings scored only 57 runs. Marcus Stoinis who came to bat at No.5 played a small cameo scoring 28 runs off 14 deliveries before being dismissed by Shivang Kumar.

Suryanash Shedge scored 25 runs off 17 deliveries before being dismissed by Pat Cummins where Abhishek Sharm picked the catch at deep mid-wicket.

With Sakib Hussain bagging the wicket of Shashank Singh, Punjab Kings lost 6 wickets for 119 runs.

However, on the other side Cooper Connolly smashed his fifty, aiming to bat until the end. The duo forged a 68-run partnership before Marcon Janse got dismissed by Shivang Kumar.

On the other hand, Cooper Connolly went on to smash his maiden IPL century and remained unbeaten with 107 runs. His knock included 7 fours and 8 sixes.

By the end of 20 overs, Punjab Kings scored 202 runs and suffered a 33-run defeat. Pat Cummins and Shivang Kumar bagged two wickets each while Nitish Reddy, Eshan Malinga and Sakib Hussain bagged one wicket each.

Sunrisers Hyderabad will play their next game against Guajrat Titans on May 12 at Narendra Modi Stadium, Ahmedabad.
