New Delhi: While the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) secured an unexpected victory in West Bengal, it also hoisted the saffron flag in Assam by winning for the third consecutive time. Following the landslide majority secured by the BJP and the NDA in Assam, the path for Himanta Biswa Sarma to become the Chief Minister has become crystal clear. Ahead of his swearing-in ceremony, Himanta Biswa Sarma of Assam has heightened the Congress party’s anxiety by making a startling claim.

Drawing a parallel to Aditya Dhar’s recent blockbuster film *Dhruva Tara* (referring to *Dhruv*), he took a jibe at the Congress party. Himanta remarked, “We have our own ‘Dhruvs’ (operatives) within the Congress.” During this interaction, he asserted that 30 Congress candidates maintained cordial relations with both the BJP and himself. Of these, six candidates have successfully won their seats and entered the Legislative Assembly.

Senior Congress Leaders Help Us: Himanta Biswa Sarma

When Himanta Biswa Sarma was asked—referencing his earlier claim that he would be instrumental in securing 30 tickets from the Congress—how many of “his” candidates were actually given tickets by the opposition party this time, he replied: “The Congress gave tickets to 30 leaders who share good relations with us; of those, six have won.”

“It is the senior leaders of the Congress themselves who assist us. They help us openly. We have to operate even within the enemy camp,” he stated. He added, “Just as you saw in *Dhruva Tara*—how operatives function within Pakistan—we, too, have our own ‘Dhruvs’ inside the Congress.” When asked if these individuals were his “spies” within the Congress, he clarified, “They are not spies. They simply have their own political careers to pursue.”

18 of 19 Congress MLAs Elected Are Muslim

Himanta Biswa Sarma pointed out that out of the 19 candidates who secured victory for the Congress in Assam, 18 are Muslim. Only one Hindu candidate from the Congress—Jay Prakash Das—managed to win, securing the Naoboicha seat in the Lakhimpur district. Commenting on this, Himanta Biswa Sarma asserted that, in Assam, the Congress has become a party of “Miya Muslims.” He further added that Hindus in Assam neither vote for the Congress nor do they wish to do so. Himanta went so far as to claim that six Congress MLAs would vote in favor of the BJP candidate in the upcoming presidential election.

For the record, in the elections held for Assam’s 126-member Legislative Assembly, the BJP-led NDA secured victory in 102 seats. Of these, the BJP won 82 seats. The party contested a total of 90 seats, thereby achieving a strike rate of approximately 92%. The BJP’s allies—the Asom Gana Parishad and the Bodoland People’s Front—each won 10 seats. The BJP has been in power in Assam since 2016, and this time, it has achieved a hat-trick of victories.
