Beed: A racket targeting unmarried men through fake marriages have come to light in the Beed district of Maharashtra. The police is probing the claims in which a woman allegedly married several men before running away with jewellery and cash.
In one such case, a local man has come out with allegations that he was cheated of lakhs of rupees after he was lured into a fake marriage that was arranged by agents. Sharing details with the police, Yogesh Shinde claimed that he was introduced to the woman through agents, who had promised to arrange his marriage. Both the bride and agents were nowhere to be seen after a few days of marriage.
Woman married 8 times earlier
The victim later found that the woman had earlier similarly married eight men and escaped, each time taking the money as well as jewellery. In his complaint, he said as per India Today, “I have been cheated of lakhs of rupees, and the situation has pushed me towards suicidal thoughts. I want justice.”
In his complaint to the police, Shinde claimed that he did not know about the woman’s earlier marriages and that he was kept in the dark before his marriage to the accused woman. A complaint has now been filed at Chaklamba police station, and the probe into the case has started.
Similar incident from Uttar Pradesh
In a similar incident, police busted a ‘looteri dulhan’ gang in the Maharajganj district of Uttar Pradesh recently. The gang was allegedly involved in cheating unsuspecting bride. The group allegedly used to cheat people in the name of marriage. Four women have been arrested in the case, while a man is absconding.
The arrests were made by the Sinduria Police Station. After the arrests of the women, officials recovered Rs 39,500 in cash from them as also silver anklets and a mangalsutra, which they allegedly got through fraudulent means.
