There is going to be a historic change in the politics of West Bengal. For the first time, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is going to form the government in the state. A grand swearing-in ceremony will be held at the Brigade Parade Ground in Kolkata on May 9, which is being considered as the beginning of a new political era in the state. However, the face of the Chief Minister has not been clear yet. Three more names including Suvendu Adhikari are being mentioned in this race.
According to the Election Commission data, BJP has achieved a huge majority by winning 206 seats in the 294-member assembly. In 2021, the party had only 77 seats, whereas this time it took a big leap, leaving Trinamool Congress behind. TMC was reduced to 80 seats this time.
Coronation will take place in the presence of Modi-Shah
Preparations are going on in full swing to make the swearing-in ceremony memorable. Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Home Minister Amit Shah and BJP national president including several Chief Ministers of NDA ruled states are likely to attend the event. Let us tell you that after his victory, Suvendu Adhikari offered prayers in Nandigram and paid tribute to the workers who lost their lives during the struggle and indicated his future action plan.
Who will be the Chief Minister of Bengal?
Even after getting such a huge majority, there is still suspense regarding the face of the Chief Minister. At present, Leader of Opposition Suvendu Adhikari is considered to be at the forefront of this race. However, names of State President Samik Bhattacharya, Union Minister Sukant Majumdar and Swapan Dasgupta are also doing the rounds. The BJP leadership is thinking of betting on a face who has a strong hold on the language, culture and intellectual heritage of Bengal.
Bhawanipur and Nandigram out of TMC’s hands
The biggest political message in this election has come from the seats of Bhawanipur and Nandigram. BJP’s victory in Bhawanipur, which was considered the impenetrable fort of Mamata Banerjee, sealed the change of power. According to the final data of the Election Commission, Suvendu Adhikari performed brilliantly and won the Nandigram seat by 9,665 votes. He got a total of 1,27,301 votes, while TMC candidate Pavitra Kar had to be content with 1,17,636 votes.
A shocking result also emerged in Bhawanipur seat. Here Mamata Banerjee had to face defeat by 15,105 votes. In this contest, Suvendu Adhikari got 73,917 votes, while Mamata Banerjee could get only 58,812 votes. Shubhendu Adhikari has made it clear that his next target is to increase BJP’s vote share from 46% to 60%.
