Kolkata. Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Subhendu Adhikari on Wednesday assured that the government will take necessary action against goons and corrupt people after the party’s landslide victory in the West Bengal Assembly elections. The officer told reporters how the previous government misbehaved with BJP workers and filed fake FIRs against them.

He said, “The people here have made me MP twice and MLA thrice. Last time I had defeated the Chief Minister and I have come here to seek blessings of Bajrangbali. Our workers worked hard day and night. More than 500 fake FIRs were registered against them and 400 BJP workers were put in jail.”

The BJP leader said, “The BJP government will take whatever action is necessary against the goons and corrupt people. No victory procession will be taken out in the coming two to three days. After the formation of the government, we will organize a thanksgiving ceremony with the permission of the police.”

BJP supporters should not adopt Trinamool culture: Official

Appealing to his supporters, Suvendu Adhikari said, “I understand what kind of difficulties and atrocities you all have faced in the last 15 years. But I urge you not to take the law into your hands. Do not adopt the culture of TMC and do not try to repeat what they did. Now that the elections are over, everyone should live together in peace.” He also directed the party leadership of East Medinipur district not to take out any kind of victory rally till the swearing-in of the new government.

Amit Shah’s visit to West Bengal tomorrow

Meanwhile, Union Home Minister Amit Shah is scheduled to visit West Bengal on Thursday evening amid ongoing political activities after the party’s historic victory in the state. According to top BJP sources, Shah will first attend the swearing-in ceremony of Bihar cabinet expansion in Patna and then leave directly for West Bengal.

His visit is being considered very important, because the party is currently actively engaged in discussions on post-election strategy and government formation. Soon after reaching West Bengal, the Home Minister will chair an important meeting with senior party leaders and core committee members.

The meeting is expected to focus on assessing the current political situation, reviewing organizational preparedness and coordinating with the leadership on next steps. Sources indicated that ahead of the BJP legislature party meeting on May 8, Shah will hold detailed discussions with party leaders regarding the upcoming swearing-in ceremony in the state.

The discussion is also likely to include the nature of the new cabinet, its composition, key departments and overall governance priorities. It is noteworthy that BJP has created history in the assembly elections, paving the way to form its first government in West Bengal, while the party-led National Democratic Alliance has scored a hat-trick of victories in Assam.

The BJP has secured 206 of the 294 seats in West Bengal, a much bigger performance than the 77 seats it won in the 2021 assembly elections. At the same time, Trinamool Congress, which made a clean sweep by winning 212 seats in the last assembly elections, stood second with 80 seats. With this defeat, Mamata Banerjee’s 15-year-old rule in the state has ended.
