In the 49th match of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026, Punjab Kings (PBKS) captain Shreyas Iyer won the toss and chose to bowl first against Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH). The game is taking place at the Rajiv Gandhi International Cricket Stadium in Hyderabad, where PBKS currently tops the points table with 13 points, while SRH sits in third place with 12 points. The outcome of this match will determine who claims the top position.

PBKS all-rounder Shashank Singh returns to the playing XI after missing the previous match against the Gujarat Titans, which PBKS lost by four wickets.

Following the toss, Iyer remarked, "We will bowl first. We have learned valuable lessons from our recent losses. The team is managing well despite the travel. In the last match, SRH chased successfully, so I opted to bowl. Shashank is back in the lineup."

For SRH, star all-rounder Nitish Kumar Reddy is back in the squad after missing the last game. SRH captain Pat Cummins stated, "I would have chosen to bowl first as well. We hope to perform well tonight. The crowd support has been fantastic this season. I can't assess the pitch accurately, but we aim to score runs. Nitish's return is a boost for us tonight."
