Amandaland has made its comeback for a thrilling second series, twelve months following its initial launch.

The comedy programme, which first aired on BBC One in February last year, is a spin-off of the beloved sitcom Motherland, which ran from 2016 through to 2022.

Motherland chronicled the challenges of middle-class parenting in Chiswick, West London, featuring Julia Johnstone (Anna Maxwell Martin), who nervously attempted to juggle her PR profession with her duties as a mother.

The character of Amanda Hughes, portrayed by Lucy Punch, was brought in as the superficial, sardonic head of a neighbourhood mothers' group before securing her own series.

The spin-off programme, Amandaland, now centres on Amanda, a single mother of two adolescents, who is compelled to move to a more modest area of London after her marriage breaks down, reports the Mirror.

The second series of the BBC programme follows Amanda as she continues to adjust to life in South Harlesden, also known as SoHa, while managing motherhood, her digital brand Senuous, and her "co-lab" position at Kitchen's Bathrooms and Kitchens.

As the time-pressed mother accepts remaining in the neighbourhood, she becomes delighted when a trendy coffee establishment opens, which, in her view, signals progress towards regeneration.

Single father, Mal (Samuel Anderson), remains Amanda's basement neighbour, and the faintest hint of chemistry between them has not entirely vanished.

Nevertheless, the entrance of Mal's forthright former partner, Abs (Harriet Webb), alters the situation when Amanda struggles to bond with her. Yet for all her personal development, when a grand property in the neighbourhood comes up for sale, Amanda simply cannot resist, and she is utterly determined to get her hands on it.

Lucy Punch returns in the lead role as Amanda, alongside Joanna Lumley as Felicity, Philippa Dunne as Anne, and Samuel Anderson as Mal.

Call the Midwife star Pam Ferris has joined the cast as Amanda's frail neighbour Elspeth, who resides in a highly coveted property and swiftly becomes the target of Amanda's newfound friendship, while Harriet Webb takes on the role of Abs.

Della (Siobhán McSweeney) is away working aboard a cruise ship, so viewers shouldn't expect to see much of her in SoHa this series, unfortunately.

Since Amandaland debuted on BBC One, many comedy enthusiasts have declared it "better" than Motherland.

On Reddit, one user wrote: "I just finished it and honestly thought it was better than Motherland. I found Johannes so funny."

A second responded: "Me too, can't remember how long since I laughed out loud at a new comedy for a good while."

A third chimed in: "Love it - better than I hoped", while another added: "Binged it all and loved it."

"Liked it a lot, love Amanda (Motherland I don't like the main character much SORRY) but was always invested in Amanda", confessed one fan.

Amandaland airs tonight at 9pm on BBC One and iPlayer
