Axis Mutual Fund has taken a major decision regarding certain overseas schemes. Citing regulatory limits on global investments, the fund house has temporarily suspended fresh investments in select overseas schemes with immediate effect. This decision comes into force on May 6, 2026. Under this decision, fresh investments will currently not be accepted in the Axis Global Equity Alpha Fund of Fund, Axis Global Innovation Fund of Fund, and Axis Greater China Equity Fund of Fund.
**Fresh Investments Will Not Be Processed**
Under the new rules, the fund house will cease accepting new registrations for lump-sum investments, switch-ins, and systematic transactions—such as SIPs and STPs—in these schemes. Axis AMC stated that any such requests submitted after 3:00 PM on May 5, 2026, will not be processed.
This suspension is temporary and will remain in effect until further notice. The fund house has not specified a timeline for resuming subscriptions.
**Why Was This Decision Taken?**
This decision aligns with the overseas investment framework outlined in SEBI's Master Circular issued in June 2024. Under these regulations, the aggregate limit for overseas investments by the mutual fund industry has been capped at $7 billion, with a separate sub-limit of $1 billion specifically allocated for overseas ETFs.
Funds are permitted to invest overseas only within the available headroom (unused capacity) as of February 1, 2022.
**Kotak Mahindra Mutual Fund Also Took a Similar Decision**
Axis Mutual Fund took this step shortly after Kotak Mahindra Mutual Fund decided to cap fresh investments in four of its overseas schemes at ₹1 lakh per PAN per month. These decisions by both fund houses signal potentially stricter industry-wide restrictions on global investments in the future.
