Fans of Nordic crime thriller shows will be excited to learn that a second season of a highly praised show is coming to Netflix, after the first was praised by viewers, earning it a 'perfect' score. While crime dramas can be a heavy watch for many, it's one of the most popular genres for a reason. But with so many to choose from, it can be difficult to know which one to watch next.

To help, a woman named Olivia Monroe took to TikTok to praise a 'lesser-known' crime drama she'd stumpled upon on Netflix and binged in just one day. And now it's returned for a second season.

"Have you ever finished a show, and you're just so upset that it's over because it was so good?" Olivia said at the start of her video. She went on to say that she'd just finished The Chestnut Man on Netflix, and expressed her surprise at never having heard of it before.

Based on a book series by Søren Sveistrup, the series follows two detectives who investigate the dismemberment and murders of several mothers in Copenhagen by a serial killer who leaves figurines made of chestnuts at the crime scenes. While the series opens with the discovery of a murder of a whole family on an isolated farm in 1987, it then moves forward to present day Copenhagen, where a young woman is found murdered in a playground. Left at the crime scene was a figurine made of chestnuts, which also had the fingerprint of a missing girl - the daughter of politician.

"It's from 2021, it's a psychological thriller, I love those," Olivia said. The first season was praised by viewers, recieving a perfect 100 per cent score on reviews site Rotten Tomatoes, and an average score of 7.6 out of 10 on IMDb, from more than 63,000 reviews.

"It's definitely worth a watch, I binged it in a day, it's got six episodes," Olivia revealed. But been five years since The Chesnut Man, and the long wait for its sequel season, The Chesnut Man: Hide and Seek is almost over, as it premieres on Netflix on May 7, and fans are so excited.

The second season is said to follow the same two detectives as they try to find a perpetrator who has seemingly been playing childhood games with vicitims before making them disappear. Mikkel Følsgaard returns as Detective Mark Hess. The actor has starred in two other popular Danish series, as Martin in The Rain, and as Asger Holm Kirkegaard in the fourth season of Borgen.

Actress Danica uri also returns as Naia Thulin. The actress was previously seen on Netflix in the The Mist as Mia Lambert, and in supernatural thriller Equinox. The actress has also starred in the Swedish crime drama Wallander and the Danish series Warrior.

It has been confirmed that the new season of The Chestnut Man will have six episodes, which will all be released on Netflix on May 7, 2026.
