CM Face of West Bengal: BJP has achieved a record-breaking victory in West Bengal. Now after this, the biggest problem seems to be stuck on the Chief Minister’s seat. It has often been seen that BJP is known for taking out-of-the-box decisions in many matters. According to experts, the same situation can be seen in Bengal also.

It is often seen that after the formation of BJP government in a state, a big leader is sent as an observer. Its purpose is to solve the problems arising in CM-Deputy CM and other matters. Recently the news of Amit Shah going to Bengal is coming out. According to political pundits, Shah’s visit to Bengal could be a sign of some big activity.

Suvendu Adhikari’s name is at the top in the list of CM candidates. Even in political circles, Adhikari is being described as a strong contender for CM. Meanwhile, sources claim that other candidates are also being scrutinized for the CM face in Bengal. Often BJP keeps big decisions secret till the last moment. It has happened many times in different states that the name running in the race for CM was not approved and some other face was chosen as CM. Let us know when this has happened recently.

Pravesh Verma was the CM face of Delhi, Rekha Gupta was selected

The political decision taken in Delhi has now raised a new question in the politics of West Bengal. BJP leader Pravesh Verma, who defeated Aam Aadmi Party chief Arvind Kejriwal, was not made the Chief Minister, even though his victory was being considered the biggest political message of the elections. Instead, the party handed over the responsibility of Chief Minister to a relatively less known face, Rekha Gupta. After this decision, now the eyes are on West Bengal, where there is suspense regarding the Chief Minister’s face amid BJP’s big victory.

This is exactly what happened when elections were held in Rajasthan. Vasundhara Raje was being considered a contender for the post of CM. Finally Rajnath Singh named Bhajanlal Sharma as the candidate for the post of CM. Its discussion continued to echo in political circles for months.

BJP’s boom in Bengal

In the West Bengal Assembly elections 2026, BJP has achieved a historic majority by winning more than 200 out of 294 seats. This is not only a change of power, but is also being seen as a major era change in the politics of the state. Trinamool Congress, which was in power in the last elections with more than 200 seats, seems to be narrowing to double digits this time. The biggest blow to the party was when Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee herself lost her seat.

Leader Suvendu Adhikari, who defeated Mamata Banerjee, has emerged as the biggest face of this election. He not only defeated the Chief Minister, but also played the role of frontline leader for BJP in the entire election. Even in 2021, Shuvendu Adhikari’s stature had grown rapidly after defeating Mamata Banerjee from Nandigram, and his victory in 2026 naturally makes him the biggest contender for the post of Chief Minister.

Will the Delhi model work in Bengal also?

The example of Delhi raises questions on the assumption that only the leader and big face who defeats the Chief Minister will become the next Chief Minister. In Delhi, Parvesh Verma had registered a big victory by defeating Arvind Kejriwal, but BJP elected Rekha Gupta as the Chief Minister. Political analysts believe that BJP often gives priority to organizational balance, social equations and long-term strategy more than personal victory in Chief Minister selection.

Suspense still persists in Bengal

Looking at this pattern, it is natural to raise the question whether the party can take any shocking decision in Bengal also. If we look at BJP’s strategy, in many states it has made such a face as Chief Minister, who was not the main face of election victory, but was considered more suitable in terms of organization and social balance. In such a situation, the challenge before Shuvendu Adhikari is not only his victory but also to fit into the broader political equations of the party.

What is the opinion of experts?

Experts believe that the case of West Bengal is certainly different from that of Delhi, but the role of central leadership will be decisive here too. The decision of the Chief Minister will not be taken at the local level, but by the top leadership of the party, keeping in mind the caste, regional and political balance. If the party feels that a new face will give a better message in the state, then Shuvendu Adhikari can also be sidelined.
