Rescue Of Stranded Indian Vessel: Despite the strained relations between India and Pakistan, a very positive news has emerged from the sea. An Indian merchant ship ‘Gautam’ stranded midway in the Arabian Sea. Pakistan Navy has helped. The ship was on its last journey from Shinas in Oman towards Alang port in Gujarat. Meanwhile, on May 3, the main generator of this ship suddenly broke down completely in the middle of the sea.

After this serious malfunction, the ship’s power was cut and all its major means of communication were almost shut down. The Indian merchant ship was within Pakistan’s Maritime Search and Rescue Zone at the time of the incident. The Pakistani Navy responded as soon as the information was received and provided essential food items to the crew. However, Pakistani authorities were completely unable to fix this major technical fault in the ship’s generator.

Power failure and drift without engine due to technical fault

On May 3, due to generator failure, all the systems and electricity of this ship were completely disrupted. After this, the ship started flowing slowly in the east-north direction without any engine at a speed of 1.5 knots. By 8:45 pm on May 4, the ship drifted and reached Indian territory, about 262 nautical miles away from Dwarka lighthouse.

According to the information received, there were a total of seven crew members on board this stranded ship who were in serious trouble. These stranded members mainly included one Indonesian national and six Indian nationals whose lives were in danger. When the Indian Coast Guard got information about this incident, they immediately started the rescue operation from their side.

Indian Coast Guard Ship ‘Rajaratan’ was immediately dispatched to the spot to ascertain the condition of the affected ship. On reaching Rajaratna it was discovered that the ship had only a few limited working communication facilities such as VHF. A thorough investigation by the officials revealed that the ship’s main generator had completely broken down and became useless.

The Indian Coast Guard has requested a tug boat from the Directorate General to safely pull out the ship. This ship, floating in the sea at a speed of 0.6 knots without lights, is a major threat to other commercial ships. As of 6:45 am on May 6, its position has been reported to be approximately 264 nautical miles from Dwarka so that continuous monitoring can be done.
