Venue of IPL final changed (Photo: PTI)
Bengaluru, Chinnaswamy Stadium: The final of IPL 2026 was to be held in Bengaluru only. A major reason behind this was its being the home ground of IPL's defending champion RCB. BCCI had also earlier decided that the final would be held in Bengaluru only. But, now the final of IPL 2026 has been shifted from M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru. The final of the 19th season of IPL will now be played at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. The question is that when Bengaluru was entitled to the final, then why did BCCI snatch this right from it? After all, what was the reason behind the decision to shift the venue?
Why did the venue of the IPL 2026 final change?
The reason behind shifting of the venue of IPL 2026 final is believed to be the MLA controversy that arose there. Well, there were already possibilities that if this controversy was not averted in time, then BCCI could implement its second plan and the same happened. Seeing the MLA issue not being resolved, BCCI decided to shift the venue of the final from there.
How and why did the MLA dispute get complicated?
Before the opening match of IPL 2026 played between RCB and SRH, Congress MLA Vijayanand Kashapanavar had suggested that every MLA should get at least 5 tickets for the matches. He had said that MLAs are public representatives, hence they should not wait in queues. After this statement of Congress MLA, Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar had talked about giving 3 tickets instead of 5 to every MLA and MP for RCB matches.
After this statement of the Deputy CM, the matter gained momentum. There were allegations of misuse of tickets, which Karnataka Home Minister G. God rejected it outright. He said that tickets are booked online. Therefore, only those who buy it are included in it. The Home Minister also said that since the tickets are non-transferrable, only MLAs or their family members can go to the matches being held at M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru. Other people cannot use it.
BCCI changed the venue after seeing the matter not being resolved
Seeing these matters unresolved, BCCI changed its decision to hold the final in Bengaluru. According to BCCI, there were some requirements of the local association and officials which were against their guidelines and protocols. In such a situation, shifting the final was the right solution.
