Cricket Gully | May 6, 2026 4:39 PM CST

Sanju Samson played a match-winning innings yet again as Chennai Super Kings (CSK) hammered Delhi Capitals (DC) by eight wickets on Tuesday to continue their fine form in Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026 clash on Tuesday.

Player of the match, Samson slammed an unbeaten 87 off 52 balls and hit seven boundaries and sixes as CSK easily chased down the 156-run target. CSK reached 159/2 in 17.3 overs.

After the match Samson was asked by the host to talk about his new moniker "Chetta" which his fans have given him this season.

With a smile on his face he replied:

"Yeah, they are calling me Chetta, but I like Sanju more."

Chetta which is a Malayali word for an elder brother. His fans started calling him this name as a term of endearment when he moved from Rajasthan Royals to CSK in a blockbuster trade before the auction.

Calm approach and team first mindset

He also spoke about his batting and the changes that he has made in his game in recent times. Samson added that he is sticking to the simple things and playing his natural game.

He stated:

"I've been trying to stick to the basics and trust my hands. I've worked on my initial movement in the last 2-3 months and it's helping me."

He added that his calm nature is nothing new and it has always been a part of his personality.

He Further Added:

"To be very honest, I'm always like this. The biggest change is you are seeing me more in the middle now. So I think that's why people are saying he is very calm. Even when I'm sitting out, I'm just very calm actually. Batting thoda jyada ho raha hai, toh sab dekh rahe hai ha yeh jyada calm hai,"

Samson fell agonisingly short of another hundred but insisted that he doesn't want to make personal milestones the priority at the expense of the team. He already has two centuries to his name in the season.

Sanju Concluded:

"Oh, hundreds are always special, sir. I think so. There was some desire, but I was like, I had to be a bit too selfish to get that. So I thought, let's win the game and the other partner was betting really well, so I didn't want to tell him 'ek single de de yaar.' I didn't say that. So I think really enjoyed. I think coming not out, finishing of the game gives you a better satisfaction. So I just enjoyed it."

In the first innings DC managed to post 155/7 with helpful contributions from Tristan Stubbs (38) and Sameer Rizvi (40*). For CSK all their bowlers Noor Ahmad, Akeal Hosein, Gurjapneet Singh, Jamie Overton and Mukesh Chaudhary chipped in with wickets.

In the run chase, Samson and Kartik Sharma(41*) were involved in an unbeaten 114-run partnership to take CSK home with ease.
