Ather Energy is preparing to launch a new and affordable family e-scooter. This scooter will be built on the company's new EL platform. It can be launched during the festive season this year. This model will fall in the category below Rizta and is aimed at targeting general customers.
by 2026 Ather Energy is gearing up to strengthen its portfolio. The company has a very busy schedule for this, which also includes new products based on the upcoming EL platform. A new factory will also be started by the end of the year to support the production. With products based on EL platform, the company hopes to reach more customers. The first model built on this platform will be launched during the festive season this year.
Ather's new plant is expected to commence operations with an initial capacity of around 42,000 units per month. This will further strengthen the company's existing manufacturing base in Hosur and prepare the company for the next phase of growth. The EL platform is a big change for Ather, as it will allow the company to enter the low-cost segment, where it is currently not present.
Regarding this, the company's co-founder Tarun Mehta said that today the largest part of the EV market is the mass segment ranging from Rs 1 lakh to Rs 1.25 lakh. Now with EL platform, Ather is specifically targeting this segment. He said that this platform will help the company in increasing its reach and earning profits.
What will be special in the upcoming Ather e-scooter?
The pictures revealed during testing show that the upcoming Ather e-scooter has been designed keeping the family in mind. The design is similar to the EL01 concept shown earlier. The scooter was completely covered during testing, but some special features were visible. These include a handlebar-mounted headlight, wide LED DRLs at the front, a strong front profile and a conventional front fender.
This scooter also has a flat floorboard for ease of use. It features a long, single-piece seat, which has been designed keeping in mind the comfort of both the rider and the pillion. Its rear part is quite simple, which clearly shows that the scooter has been designed for everyday use more than sporty look.
This new scooter, built on the EL platform, will fall in the category below the Rizta in Ather's current lineup. Its main target will be common customers. While the 450 series caters to performance-minded customers and the Rizta caters to the family, this new scooter will be a more affordable alternative to the Ather.
EL platform for cheaper models
The EL platform is designed to be modular and cost-effective. This allows Ather to build multiple types of products on the same architecture. This can offer a large range of scooters with different battery sizes, features and prices. However, no official information has been given yet, but according to the earlier information, battery options ranging from 2 kWh to 5 kWh can be found in the upcoming scooter. According to reports, Ather may also use LFP battery technology to keep costs low and make the scooter durable.
