The 49th match of IPL 2026 will showcase Sunrisers Hyderabad competing against Punjab Kings. The previous match for SRH ended with a loss against Kolkata Knight Riders by 7 wickets. Hyderabad started their innings by scoring 166 runs. KKR successfully completed their batting chase after 18.2 overs.

The previous match for Punjab Kings resulted in a defeat when they lost to Gujarat Titans by 4 wickets. Punjab first batted and scored 164 runs, which proved to be a competitive total but Gujarat successfully chased it down in 19.5 overs. Suryanah Shedge scored 57 runs while Marcus Stoinis contributed 40 runs to the team.

Punjab experienced major difficulties with their bowling performance. The bowling unit had only two performers who made an impact through their wicket-taking ability as Vijaykumar Vyashak and Arshdeep Singh each took two wickets while the rest of bowlers failed to deliver anything useful.

Nitish Kumar Reddy missed Sunrisers Hyderabad's IPL 2026 match against Kolkata Knight Riders due to illness, which forced SRH to make a change for their home game in Hyderabad on May 3. At the toss Pat Cummins announced the news after he won the toss and selected to bat first. Cummins said Nitish tried to make himself available but failed to recover in time.

The update confirmed that Nitish was not dropped because of form or tactics.Only illness caused him to miss the match as he became ineligible for the playing XI.

SRH needs Nitish because he provides both middle-order stabilization and complete team equilibrium. The team features aggressive hitters such as Abhishek Sharma, Travis Head, Ishan Kishan, and Heinrich Klaasen who require Nitish as a reliable batting option for non-attacking situations.

Daniel Vettori, the head coach of SRH commented: “I spoke to him this morning, and he's feeling a lot better. He's going to train today, but we don't foresee a situation where he won't play tomorrow.”

Vettori’s statement indicates that Nitish needs to complete his training for one day before he can participate in the upcoming match. So, Nitish Reddy is most likely to play in today’s IPL match between Sunrisers Hyderabad and Punjab Kings.
