Two Indians won the Pulitzer Prize, known as the Oscars of journalism. Two Indian journalists Anand RK and Suparna Sharma won this award for breaking the veil of digital surveillance and cybercrime. On Monday, the two journalists received the award in the pictorial reporting and commentary category. Bloomberg journalist Natalie Obiko Pearson was also awarded in this category.

Besides reaching the final stage in this category, in the end Pulitzer was missed by a Bengali. He is Devjyot Ghoshal. He exposed cyber crime and human trafficking rackets spread across Southeast Asia. His report highlights how criminals use human trafficking as a tool to carry out cyber crimes with people from different countries including India. They were detained for years. Devjyot Ghoshal currently resides in Bangkok.
It should be noted that this is not the first time Bengali has dominated the Pulitzer stage. Named after the famous journalist Joseph Pulitzer, this honor was first won by an Indian in 1937. He was, Govind Bihari Lal. Then in 2000 Jhumpa Lahiri got this award for the book ‘Interpreter of Maladies’. In 2011 Siddharth Mukhopadhyay was awarded for the book ‘The Emperor of All Diseases’. Danish Siddiqui received the award in 2018 for the last photojournalism. He was awarded the Pulitzer posthumously.
