DETROIT (AP) - Ceddanne Rafaela delivered a powerful performance, hitting a home run and driving in four runs as the Boston Red Sox defeated the Detroit Tigers 10-3 on Tuesday night.
This victory marked the second consecutive win for the Red Sox against the Tigers.
Framber Valdez (2-2) faced a challenging game, giving up a career-high 10 runs before being ejected in the fourth inning for hitting Trevor Story. This incident led to both benches emptying, although no physical altercations occurred. Valdez also allowed three home runs, matching a personal worst.
Red Sox Power Hitting
In addition to Rafaela's impressive performance, Willson Contreras and Wilyer Abreu also contributed with home runs for the Red Sox. The team, which had previously lost four of five games, improved their season record to 4-2 against the Tigers.
Tigers Struggle Continues
Matt Vierling hit a home run for the Tigers, who have now lost five of their last eight games. The team faced an uphill battle as they attempted to recover from recent defeats.
Pitching Performance
Brayan Bello (2-4) had a strong outing, allowing just one run on four hits over seven innings. Bello replaced opener Jovani Moran in the second inning, walking one batter and striking out seven after experiencing a three-game losing streak.
Game Highlights
The Red Sox established a 3-0 lead in the first inning thanks to Rafaela's three-run homer, but the Tigers responded with two runs off Moran in the same inning. After a scoreless second inning, Boston capitalized on a walk and five consecutive singles to extend their lead to 8-2.
Contreras hit a towering home run estimated at 449 feet on Valdez's first pitch, admiring the shot as it sailed over the Red Sox bullpen. Shortly thereafter, Abreu followed with a line drive home run down the right-field line.
Valdez's next pitch struck Story in the back, prompting a confrontation that saw both teams' benches clear, although no altercations took place. Following this incident, Valdez was ejected by third-base umpire Dan Iassogna.
Looking Ahead
The Red Sox and Tigers will conclude their three-game series on Wednesday night, with Tigers right-hander Jack Flaherty (0-2, 5.90) set to take the mound.
