9 Types of Potato Chips Recalled Nationwide for Potential Salmonella Contamination

There’s an active recall on popular brands of potato chips sold nationwide, according to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA). This is due to their connection to a potential Salmonella contamination.

The Utz products being recalled are various types of Zapp’s and Dirty potato chips. The following flavors and sizes are affected, including UPCs, batch codes and best-by dates as printed on the packaging:

Check your snack drawer, and if you have any of the affected chips on hand, dispose of them or contact Utz’s customer care team for a refund. You can do this by calling 1-877-423-0149, Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. EST.

The recall was announced in connection with a dry milk powder recall, an ingredient in these chip products that may contain Salmonella bacteria. This milk powder recall also caused a recent public health alert on select frozen pizzas sold at Aldi. While the chips did not test positive for the foodborne illness, Utz is recalling the above products “out of an abundance of caution.”

Salmonella infection (salmonellosis) can cause symptoms such as diarrhea, stomach cramps, headaches, nausea, vomiting and/or loss of appetite. These symptoms will typically start from six hours to six days after infection, and they can last up to seven days. If you are showing signs of salmonellosis after eating the recalled chips, contact a healthcare professional immediately.
