Rain Alert in Delhi Puts DC vs CSK Under Threat: What if Match is Washed Out? Playoff Scenario Explained

Match 48 of the IPL 2026 will be played between the Delhi Capitals and the Chennai Super Kings at Arun Jaitley Stadium on Tuesday. Both teams are still in play for the playoff spots and will need a win to stay in competition.

Both CSK and DC are sixth and seventh respectively in the points table with 8 points from 9 matches. Another loss here may mean both these sides having to win their last few games to stay in contention.

Even though both teams go into this fixture on the back of a win, the weather in Delhi could be a deciding factor in the game.

Delhi Weather Causes Concerns

The capital city has seen a drastic change in the weather conditions with rains, thunderstorms and even hail in several parts. The city is placed under an orange alert for Tuesday covering almost all parts like New Delhi, Central, West, North and East.

There has been cloud cover over the city since the afternoon and the last couple of evenings have already seen rain disrupting the game, so there's a strong chance of a rain interruption. The IMD has also forecast the possibility of a hail storm at certain parts of the city.

The maximum temperature is forecast to be around 33 degrees and there is also a chance of thunderstorms later in the evening. The situation can potentially delay the start or even lead to a match abandonment.

What Happens if the Match is Washed Out?

If the match does gets washed out by rain, both teams would share one point each, which would place both DC and CSK on 9 points from 10 games.

From that stage they can achieve a maximum of 17 points, if they win their all of the remaining games, and lose one more from then would bring their points to a maximum of 15.

With PBKS already sitting on 13 points, and four other teams on 12 points it is very much looking like 15 points will not enough to achieve playoff status this year, as other teams stand on the way of reaching this total.

Therefore it is absolutely crucial for both sides to try and win this match. Any wash-out would lessen their possibilities, and add more pressure during their remaining games.

As it becomes evident that more teams will qualify for the playoff stage this year than is usual, DC and CSK would be praying the weather eases up, to enable the two to play at the Arun Jaitley Stadium.
