Rishabh Pant IPL Captaincy: An important match of IPL 2026 was played between Mumbai Indians and Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) on Monday. In which Lucknow once again faced a crushing defeat. This is the sixth consecutive one from Lucknow. After this defeat at the hands of Mumbai, once again the demand for removing Rishabh Pant from the captaincy of Lucknow has intensified.
LSG has been able to win only 2 out of 9 matches played so far and is at the bottom 10th position in the points table with 4 points. After the team’s continuous poor performance, many veterans have demanded the LSG management to remove Pant from the captaincy. Even the most expensive player in IPL history, Rishabh Pant, has not been able to do anything big with batting or captaincy this season.
Demand to remove Pant from captaincy
Veteran player Wasim Jaffer was the first to demand the removal of Rishabh Pant from the captaincy. He had argued behind this that Pant was not able to perform well due to the pressure of captaincy. In such a situation, captaincy responsibilities should be taken from him, so that he can play freely and focus on his batting. Jaffer had advocated giving the captaincy to Aiden Markram in place of Pant.
After Wasim Jaffer, now former cricketers Manoj Tiwari and Rohan Gavaskar have also made a similar demand from LSG management. Both of them said that Pant is facing extra burden due to captaincy. Due to which he is not able to bat in his destructive avatar in T20. Pant has played 9 matches for Lucknow in the season. In which he has scored a total of 204 runs and his strike rate is only 128.3, which is very low in terms of T-20 cricket.
Pant needs to focus on batting
Speaking to Cricbuzz, Rohan Gavaskar said that Lucknow owner Sanjiv Goenka had once said that he wanted Rishabh Pant to create a legacy. Play for Lucknow Super Giants for the next 10-15 years and win trophies. Gavaskar said that but sometimes you have to take some players out of the firing line. LSG management will now have to decide this season whether they want to keep him as captain or not. Pant should be left free and he should focus on his batting. Everyone knows what quality the players are in T-20 and what they can do when the time comes.
