Online Car Sale Fraud: Typically, people rely on trusted and certified websites to purchase used cars; however, numerous instances have come to light where individuals pose as employees of online car sales platforms to contact prospective buyers. One such case has surfaced in New Delhi, where the Delhi Police have arrested a 32-year-old man. He is accused of defrauding a resident of Trilokpuri of ₹2 lakh by luring him with a bogus offer to sell a used car online. The accused has been identified as Aman Sethi. The Cyber Police Station team of the East District was responsible for his arrest.

What was the case?
The victim filed a complaint with the police on April 16. An unidentified individual contacted the victim, claiming to be associated with an online car sales platform. The accused gained the victim's trust by sending photographs and details of the car. Subsequently, he induced the victim to transfer ₹2 lakh under the pretext of booking and processing fees. After receiving the money, neither the car was delivered nor was the amount refunded; furthermore, after a short period, the accused completely ceased all contact with the victim. Following an investigation, the police arrested the accused, and further legal proceedings are underway.

According to the police, taking the complaint seriously, a special police team was constituted under the supervision of Inspector Pawan Yadav and ACP Pawan Kumar. During the investigation, officers traced the financial transactions, which were linked to an account held at the State Bank of India (SBI). The accused was identified following a thorough examination of KYC documents, account activity logs, and digital evidence. The police stated that the accused had fled his home to evade arrest.

However, based on continuous surveillance and specific intelligence received, the team tracked his movements and eventually apprehended him. During interrogation, he attempted to mislead the investigating officers, but the evidence gathered against him conclusively established his guilt. Further investigation revealed that he had previously been involved in a similar fraud case registered at the Krishna Nagar Police Station, indicating that he has been perpetrating such fraud as a recurring pattern.

**How He Targeted Victims**
He targeted individuals who were searching online for used cars. Posing as an employee of a well-known company, he would gain people's trust by providing false information and subsequently demand that an advance payment be transferred to his personal bank account. Once the money was received, he would evade the victim's inquiries and eventually vanish.

**Police Issue Advisory**
Issuing an advisory, the police urged citizens to exercise caution while conducting transactions with online sellers. The police have advised the public to verify the authenticity of sellers and to refrain from transferring money to personal accounts without proper due diligence. In the event of any cyber fraud, citizens can report the incident by calling the helpline number 1930 or by contacting their nearest cyber police station.
