It was a close call as Gujarat Titans beat Punjab Kings by one ball in the IPL 2026 clash at Narendra Modi Stadium on Sunday. Chasing 164 GT reached 167/6 and ended up winning with a ball to spare. Post the win, captain Shubman Gill stole the limelight with a curt and fiery social media update: "Bas jeetna hai. Aava de".
Despite the captain happy about the win he conceded the chase could have been smoother. GT's bowlers were effective with the ball in the initial phase of the innings and restricted PBKS to 163/9 on a slow surface.

Speaking after the match Gill admitted:
"Would have liked to not take it as deep as we did. But two points! We always knew that this is not a wicket where we would chase it in 15-16 overs. If someone is set, then they should go deep. Length balls weren't coming on. It was important for the batter who was set-lucky for us, Washy finished it off. It was all about the kind of situation we were in, and the best batter (on sending out left-handers)".
GT's composed finish was enough to fetch them crucial two points heading towards the business end of the tournament.

Iyer believes PBKS set a decent total
PBKS skipper Shreyas Iyer expressed that his side posted a decent total considering the starts lost in the powerplay.
Iyer Said:
"I personally thought it was a great score. New ball was doing a bit at the start. Their bowlers made best use of the surface, the way they were hitting the deck. We lost four wickets in the powerplay; just to get to 160 from there was a phenomenal effort".
Iyer further admitted that the bowlers could not implement their strategies during the chase.
Shreyas Concluded:
"With the new ball, I thought we would be able to hit line and length and be accurate and get wickets, but it didn't work out. Kudos to the effort, attitude and approach. We missed out on hitting the hard lengths, I think. Hitting over midwicket wasn't easy on this wicket, there was variable bounce".
PBKS stay put at the top of the points table and would be looking to bounce back from this loss to maintain their strong hold.
