digital desk- The recent results of the assembly elections have created a stir in the country’s politics. After the crushing defeat of the opposition alliance ‘India’ in states like West Bengal, Assam and Tamil Nadu, the round of allegations has started. Former Congress President Rahul Gandhi on Monday launched a scathing attack on the Bharatiya Janata Party and the Election Commission, alleging that public opinion has been ‘stolen’ in these states.
“Loot of 100 seats”: Rahul confirms Mamata’s claim
Rahul Gandhi, joining the tone of West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on the social media platform ‘X’, opened a front against BJP and the Election Commission. Rahul wrote that more than 100 seats have been stolen in West Bengal and similar tactics have been adopted in Assam. He claimed that BJP has changed the mandate with institutional help. Rahul Gandhi cautioned the opposition parties, saying that this pattern of “election theft and institution theft” is not new. According to him, earlier in the assembly elections of Madhya Pradesh, Haryana, Maharashtra and also in the last Lok Sabha elections, BJP had won by adopting a similar strategy.
Alarm bells for opposition alliance ‘India’
These election results have put question marks on the unity and future of the opposition alliance. The collapse of the forts of regional superpowers like TMC and DMK is a major psychological blow to the alliance. Especially in states like Tamil Nadu and Bengal, where the opposition parties were considering themselves invincible, the penetration of BJP and its allies has changed the equations of national politics. In the coming times, it will be a big challenge for the Samajwadi Party (SP) to stop this wave of BJP in Uttar Pradesh. Cracks are already visible in the opposition camp, as the recent joining of seven Rajya Sabha members of ‘AAP’ to BJP shows the weakness of the alliance.
Congress gets ‘Sanjeevani’ in Kerala
Amidst the despair in the opposition camp, a relief news has come from Kerala for Congress. The victory in Kerala has given Congress the hope it desperately needed after the defeat in Maharashtra, Delhi and Haryana. Now Kerala will be the fourth state in the country where Congress will have its own Chief Minister. At present Congress has its own governments in Karnataka, Telangana and Himachal Pradesh. However, the crushing defeat in Assam has increased the party’s concern, because the Congress has been facing drought of power there for the last decade. On the other hand, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has described these election results as a “lesson” against the opposition. PM Modi recently targeted those who opposed the Women’s Reservation and Delimitation Bill in Parliament, saying that the women of the country have given a strong reply to their opponents with the power of vote. These results have made it clear that it is now more challenging than ever for the opposition alliance ‘India’ to remain united and take on the BJP’s electoral machinery.
