After Yogi government, there has been a big improvement in the sugar industry of UP. Sugarcane payment of Rs 3.16 lakh crore, increased crushing capacity, operation of closed mills and 10 lakh employment opportunities have strengthened the farmers and rural economy.

Lucknow. Since the coming of Yogi government in the year 2017, major changes have been seen in the sugar industry of Uttar Pradesh. Under the leadership of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, the government has continuously worked on sugarcane payment, increasing the crushing capacity of sugar mills, restarting closed mills and their expansion. Sugarcane farmers have directly benefited from these efforts and their economic condition has improved compared to before. Besides, new employment opportunities have also been created for lakhs of people.

Record improvement in sugarcane payment: Payment of Rs 3.16 lakh crore

Before the year 2017, thousands of crores of rupees of payment were outstanding to sugarcane farmers. Caught between the mills and the administration, farmers were at the point of giving up farming. But as soon as the Yogi government came to power, the first thing that was done was to improve the sugarcane payment system. According to the Sugarcane Department, a record payment of Rs 3.16 lakh crore has been made to the farmers in the last 9 years, which has brought great relief to the farmers.

Increase in crushing capacity: Capacity of 8.47 lakh tonnes per day

The government also ensured that farmers' sugarcane does not get spoiled in the fields. For this, the crushing capacity of sugar mills has been increased to 8.47 lakh tonnes per day. Due to this increased capacity, a record 9,156 lakh tonnes of sugarcane has been crushed in the last 9 years, which has improved both production and supply.

Re-operation and modernization of closed sugar mills

Sugar mills which were closed for many years have also been restarted. Mills like Ramla (Baghpat), Munderwa (Basti) and Pipraich (Gorakhpur) were restarted on the instructions of the Chief Minister. Apart from this, more than 44 sugar mills were modernized and capacity expanded, which made the process of sugarcane crushing and supply easier.

Employment to 10 lakh people: Rural economy got a boost

At present, 122 sugar mills are operating in 45 districts of the state. About 10 lakh people have got employment through these mills. This includes youth with different qualifications, which has increased employment opportunities. Along with this, due to timely payment of sugarcane price, economic circulation of more than Rs 35 thousand crore is taking place in the rural markets during every crushing session, which strengthens the rural economy.
