New Delhi: Grand Theft Auto 6’s console-first launch plan has again put PC players in a familiar waiting room. Take-Two Interactive CEO Strauss Zelnick has said Rockstar starts with consoles since console players are seen as the “core” audience for a release of this size, according to comments cited from a Bloomberg interview.
The comment matters since GTA 6 is one of the biggest gaming releases in years, and its PC launch is still not officially dated. For many players, especially in India where gaming PCs and laptops are common among streamers and creators, the console-first strategy feels a bit old-school. I get why some fans are annoyed. Nobody likes watching the party start from outside the gate.
Why Rockstar is starting with consoles
Zelnick said, “Rockstar always starts on console because I think with regard to a release like that you’re judged by serving the core.” He added, “Like really serving the core consumer.”
That is the company’s big argument. Rockstar wants its first GTA 6 release to target the audience it believes matters most at launch. In simple words, console players come first. PC players come later.
Zelnick added that if the core consumer is not “served first and best,” then reaching other consumers becomes harder. That line will not calm PC players much, but it gives a clear look at how Rockstar is thinking about the launch.
PC players are bigger now, but still waiting
The funny part is that Zelnick also admitted PC has grown a lot for major games. He said that when Take-Two was first established, PC players made up only around 5 percent of sales for NBA 2K. Now, for a major title, PC sales can account for 45 percent to 50 percent.
That makes the GTA 6 PC delay harder to digest. If PC can bring nearly half of sales for a big title, fans will naturally ask why the platform is missing at launch.
For now, GTA 6 is set to launch on consoles first. The PC version is expected later, but Rockstar has not confirmed when. Till then, PC players may need patience, a strong meme folder, and maybe a friend with a console.
