The Met Gala 2026 saw many first-time appearances, but few felt as personal and rooted in history as that of Gauravi Kumari and Sawai Padmanabh Singh, also known as Pacho. Representing Jaipur’s royal legacy, the duo brought a strong sense of heritage to the global stage, choosing outfits that reflected both family history and traditional craftsmanship. Their debut wasn’t just about fashion. It was about identity, memory, and carrying forward a legacy in a way that felt relevant today.
Gauravi Kumari’s Look Rooted In Family History At Met Gala 2026For her first Met Gala appearance, Gauravi Kumari chose to wear something deeply personal. Instead of starting from scratch, she worked with designer Prabal Gurung to transform her grandmother Maharani Gayatri Devi’s saree into a gown.
The original saree, a soft pink chiffon piece, was carefully reworked into a flowing yet structured outfit. While the silhouette was updated for the red carpet, the essence of the saree remained intact. The colour itself was meaningful, reflecting Jaipur’s identity as the Pink City.
What made the outfit stand out was the intention behind it. Gauravi chose not to simply take inspiration from her grandmother’s style but to actually include the original fabric in the design. This added a sense of continuity, connecting past and present in a single look.
Her jewellery followed the same idea of keeping things rooted in tradition. She wore layered pearl necklaces, paired with uncut diamonds and rubies sourced from Jaipur. The pieces reflected the understated elegance often associated with Maharani Gayatri Devi. Additional details like ear chains, stacked bangles, and rings added depth without overwhelming the outfit. The styling remained balanced, with soft makeup, neat hair, and tonal heels completing the look.
The overall effect was simple yet refined, allowing the story behind the outfit to remain the focus.

Padmanabh Singh’s Look Inspired By Tradition At Met Gala 2026Standing alongside her, Padmanabh Singh presented a look that was equally connected to heritage but more structured in design. His outfit, also created in collaboration with Prabal Gurung, centred around a velvet coat layered over a bandhgala.
The coat, developed with artisans in Jaipur, took over 600 hours to complete. It featured detailed handwork using techniques like aari, zardozi, dabka, and resham embroidery. These elements added texture and richness to the outfit without making it feel heavy. The silhouette remained sharp and tailored, keeping the focus on craftsmanship.
One of the most striking elements of Padmanabh Singh’s look was the design on the back of his coat. It featured a large sun motif, inspired by Jaipur’s royal architecture and symbolising his Suryavanshi lineage. This detail added meaning to the outfit, turning it into more than just a fashion piece. It reflected his identity and connection to his roots.
His jewellery included traditional polki and jadau elements, subtly incorporated into the look through buttons and layered accessories. These additions blended seamlessly with the outfit rather than standing out separately.
