Why is it necessary to offer water to the moon?

Why is the fast incomplete without Arghya?
According to religious beliefs, the fast of Sankashti Chaturthi is observed by keeping waterless or eating fruits throughout the day, but it ends only after seeing the moon and offering Arghya. Breaking the fast without offering Arghya to the Moon is considered incomplete and the full results of the fast are not achieved. Offering Arghya means worshiping the moon with water, milk or Ganges water and praying for happiness and peace. In a way, it symbolizes the completeness and devotion of the fast.
