New Delhi. The ruling DMK and Chief Minister MK Stalin have suffered a double blow this time in the Tamil Nadu Assembly elections. As per the trends so far, DMK seems to be out of power, while CM Stalin himself has not been able to save his seat. Stalin has lost the election from Kolathur seat to his old aide VS Babu. VS Babu was earlier in DMK and was also the election in-charge of Stalin on Kolathur seat in 2011. VS Babu had joined Vijay Thalapathi’s party TVK on 7 February 2026. As a TVK candidate, he contested the Kolathur seat against Chief Minister MK Stalin and won.

Let us tell you that Stalin losing the election from Kolathur seat is a big deal because this seat has been considered the stronghold of DMK. Kolathur assembly seat was formed in 2011 by combining some areas of Villivakkam and Purasavakkam. Since then only Stalin has been winning elections from here. Stalin has won the elections from Kolathur seat three times in a row in 2011, 2016 and 2021. However, this time Stalin has lost the election from his own seat in the storm of Vijay’s party TVK.

It is noteworthy that Vijay Thalapathi had fielded VS Babu against Stalin as per a very well thought out strategy. Being the election in-charge of Stalin on Kolathur seat in 2011, VS Babu had good knowledge of that area and he also got benefit from it. The voters of Kolathur rejected Stalin this time and have given a chance to VS Babu with new hopes. Apart from Stalin, many other big leaders of DMK are also lagging far behind in the trends and the danger of defeat seems to be looming over them.
