Many individuals around the globe harbor a fear of ghosts and snakes. While the existence of ghosts remains unproven by science, the fear of snakes can lead to severe consequences. Research indicates that a significant number of people die from heart attacks triggered by the fear of snake bites rather than the bites themselves. Snakes come in various species, and their presence instills fear in both children and adults alike. Although not all snakes are venomous, the anxiety they provoke can be fatal. In India, only ten snake species are known to cause immediate fatalities upon biting a human.

Identifying Dangerous Snakes

Among these ten species are the black cobra and other dangerous varieties typically found in forests. If a person is bitten by a non-venomous snake, timely medical intervention can often save their life. Snakes are most commonly seen during the monsoon season and tend to retreat to their burrows after Mahashivratri. The primary reason snakes enter homes during the rainy season is due to flooding in their burrows, prompting them to seek refuge on dry land. Without prompt treatment for a snake bite, a person risks losing their life.

Why Snakes Enter Homes

Snakes are predators and are constantly on the lookout for food, which often leads them into human dwellings. The rainy season destroys many insect habitats, causing snakes to be attracted to the light in homes, where they may settle. They particularly enjoy eating lizards and insects, which can sometimes lead them into homes while chasing their prey.

Keeping Snakes Away from Your Home

During the rainy season, families often take precautions to protect their children from potential snake encounters. If you wish to keep snakes away from your home, a specific spray can be highly effective. This spray contains carbonic acid and phenyl, both of which snakes tend to avoid. Spraying these substances around your home can encourage snakes to stay away. Additionally, you can use a cloth soaked in ammonia and place it in areas where snakes have been spotted. This method not only deters snakes but can also keep other animals at bay.

Another effective deterrent is kerosene. You can apply it to a cloth and place it in corners of your home or sprinkle it in your yard. The strong odor of kerosene is unpleasant for snakes, prompting them to retreat back to their burrows.
