A recent shooting in Washington, DC, led to a temporary lockdown at the White House and ignited various rumors online, particularly regarding Vice President JD Vance’s motorcade. However, officials have stated that these claims are unfounded. The United States Secret Service confirmed their involvement in responding to an officer-involved shooting at the intersection of 15th Street and Independence Avenue. They reported that one person was shot by law enforcement, with their current condition still unknown. The agency urged the public to steer clear of the area while emergency services were deployed.
During a press briefing, Deputy Director Matthew Quinn elaborated on the situation, stating, “They returned fire and engaged. That individual was hit and transported to the hospital.” He also mentioned that a juvenile bystander was struck by the suspect but fortunately did not suffer any life-threatening injuries and was taken to the hospital for treatment.
On social media, several posts suggested that the shooting took place close to Vance’s motorcade, implying that the suspect fired shots in that vicinity. Officials clarified that the vice president’s motorcade had already passed through the area just minutes prior to the incident. Libbey Dean from NewsNation also confirmed that it was shortly before the shooting that the motorcade was in the same location.
Quinn stressed that there is “no indication” that the suspect had any intention of targeting the motorcade. He also addressed concerns regarding whether the incident was aimed at President Donald Trump, stating, “Whether or not it was directed to the president or not, I don’t know but we will find out.”
According to officials, agents first spotted a “suspicious individual who appeared to be armed,” noting a visible outline of a weapon. When approached, the suspect opened fire on the officers and attempted to escape on foot, which led agents to return fire and hit him. Despite the alarming nature of the shooting due to its proximity to significant locations and individuals, authorities have confirmed that there is currently no evidence linking the incident to the vice president’s motorcade.
