Mumbai Indians (MI) defeated Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) by six wickets to keep playoff hopes alive. MI had been poor in the lead-up to the clash, winning just two out of the nine games, but the win over LSG has come as a shot in the arm for the five-time champions.
MI need to win all their remaining games to keep hopes alive for the playoffs, and they've taken the first step towards the top four berth as the tournament reaches the business end. Rohit Sharma returned to MI after a long layoff due to injury and made an immediate impact. He played a brilliant knock of 84 to set up the chase of 229. Ryan Rickelton continued from where he left in the game against SRH, where he scored a brilliant century and followed it up with a handy knock of 37 against the Chennai Super Kings. He played a whirlwind knock of 83 in 32 balls to stun LSG. He and Rohit Sharma added 143 runs for the first wicket and sealed the game for MI. Suryakumar Yadav's Form A Worry For Mumbai Indians The top order was one of the reasons why MI struggled in the season, but they have found a great combination now. But MI shouldn't take things for granted, as there are plenty of areas to work on. The middle-order has been a concern, especially Suryakumar Yadav, who has looked like a pale shadow of his own, scoring just 196 runs in 10 innings at an average of 19.50. If MI have to really put a case for a place in the playoff berth, they will need Suryakumar Yadav to find form. They'll also need Tilak Varma and Hardik Pandya to find their mojo and get the MI campaign rollicking. MI need all things to fall in place if they are to qualify for the playoffs. Meanwhile, Suryakumar Yadav, who captained MI in he absence of Hardik Pandya due to injury against LSG said that the team was confident of chasing the big score. "It was nothing new. We knew we could control the game with a couple of wickets. They were 120-odd for one. Everyone had their beliefs and had their plans. The way they bowled was commendable. Even though we scored 244 few days back, SRH chased it down. So we knew it was chaseable. It was unbelievable batting. It's important to have a good start. They were always in control. At the way, Naman and everyone batted was nice," said Suryakumar Yadav.
