Kolkata. Trinamool Congress chief and West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has lost the election from Bhawanipur assembly seat in the state. He was defeated by his nearest rival candidate Subhendu Adhikari by 15,105 votes. Counting of votes took place for twenty rounds on this seat. When the counting was in the initial stages, Adhikari had taken the lead but soon Mamata Banerjee took the lead by more than 16 thousand votes. But after this her lead kept falling. Once again in the 17th cycle, Shri Adhikari turned the tables and was ahead by about 550 votes. In the subsequent three rounds, he further strengthened his lead and ultimately defeated Banerjee by 15,105 votes.

All 20 rounds of voting have been completed on Bhawanipur seat. From here Suvendu got a total of 73463 votes. Whereas Mamata Banerjee got a total of 58349 votes. That means Mamata Banerjee lost the election on this seat by a total of 15114 votes. In the last election, Suvendu Adhikari had also defeated Mamata from Nandigram seat in Bengal. After this she contested the by-election from Bhawanipur and reached the assembly.
Let us tell you that Bharatiya Janata Party is moving towards victory for the first time in West Bengal. According to the Election Commission, the BJP has won or is leading in 208 of the 294 seats, much higher than the magic figure of 147. Trinamool Congress seems to be getting 79 seats. Meanwhile, there has been a big upheaval in Bengal. Senior BJP leader Shubhendu Adhikari has registered a big victory by defeating Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee by a huge margin of 15114 votes in Bhawanipur Assembly seat of West Bengal.
