New Delhi: Rohit Sharma made an emphatic return from injury with a cracking half-century for the Mumbai Indians (MI) in their clash against the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) in the IPL 2026 on Monday, May 04. The Hitman slammed a 27-ball fifty to announce his comeback in style at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai.

Opening the innings with Ryan Rickelton, Rohit helped the Mumbai Indians get off to a strong start in the 229-run chase at their home ground. The senior opener made a slow start and was 15 off 15 balls at one stage in his innings. However, he shifted gears seamlessly against LSG pacer Avesh Khan in the final over of MI’s Powerplay to up the ante.

Rohit smashed back-to-back fours against Avesh before slamming consecutive sixes off the next two balls to get 20 runs off just 4 deliveries in his over. His onslaught against Avesh helped the Mumbai Indian finish the Powerplay strongly with 71 runs without any wickets. The senior batter continued his run-scoring spree after the over and raced to his fifty off 27 balls.

Rohit completed his half-century with a six against spinner M Siddharth in the ninth over of the Mumbai Indians’ run chase. It was the Hitman’s second half-century of the season and his 49th in the IPL overall. The 27-ball fifty is also Rohit’s fourth-fastest half-century in the tournament.

Rohit Sharma’s fastest 50s in IPL (by balls):

Rohit Sharma missed 5 matches for MI in IPL 2026

Rohit missed five matches for the Mumbai Indians due to a hamstring injury before making his comeback against LSG at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai on Monday. The Hitman pulled his hamstring while playing for MI in their clash against Royal Challengers Bengaluru last month and was sidelined from action.

In his absence, Mumbai Indians gave opportunities to youngsters in their squad but struggled to nail down a perfect opening combination as their woeful run continued in the IPL 2026. Rohit made an immediate impact for the five-time champions on his return, proving why he remains indispensable in the squad despite his growing age.

Rohit will be hoping to convert his knock into a big one to help the Mumbai Indians chase down the target of 229 runs against LSG and bring an end to their three-match losing streak in the IPL 2026.
