New Delhi: Mumbai Indians (MI) spinner Allah Ghazanfar continued his impressive show with the new ball in his side’s clash against Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) in the IPL 2026 on Monday, May 04. Ghazanfar dismissed LSG opener Josh Inglis in the Powerplay to break a 15-year-old record held by Harbhajan Singh for the Mumbai Indians.
The Afghanistan spinner is among the rare breed of spinners who bowl in the Powerplay and thrive with the new ball despite the fielding restrictions in the first six overs. Ghazanfar got rid of Inglis cheaply on 13 off 5 balls in his very first over of the game against LSG at the Wankhede Stadium to extend his tally to six wickets in the Powerplay this season.
With the wicket, Ghazanfar broke Harbhajan’s record for most wickets by a spinner in the Powerplay for the Mumbai Indians in a single IPL season. Former India spinner Harbhajan picked up five wickets for the Mumbai Indians in the Powerplay in IPL 2011. Ghazanfar surpassed his tally to etch his name in the record books.
Ghazanfar undid Inglis on his LSG debut with a carrom ball. The Australian batter was looking in fine touch but miscued a pull shot against the spinner to get caught by MI’s stand-in skipper Suryakumar Yadav. Suryakumar ran back from mid-on to complete a terrific catch and helped the spinner draw the first blood for his team in the game.

Nicholas Pooran’s 16-ball fifty powers LSG to highest Powerplay scoreNicholas Pooran smashed a 16-ball fifty, the second-fastest by an LSG batter in the IPL, to power LSG to their highest powerplay score of 90/1 against the Mumbai Indians at the Wankhede Stadium. Pooran returned among the runs for LSG after a disastrous campaign and looked in confident touch as he smashed 63 off just 21 balls, laced with 8 sixes and a solitary boundary.
The explosive left-hander combined with Mitchell Marsh (44 off 25) to capitalise on the Powerplay after the early departure of Inglis. The duo added a sensational 94-run stand off just 34 balls for the second wicket to set up the stage for a big total for the visitors. Pooran’s eight sixes in his innings is the joint second-most by an LSG batter in an IPL innings.
