Wu Yize endured a nightmare start to the third session of his World Snooker Championship final against Shaun Murphy. Wu headed into this afternoon's third session at the Crucible with a 10-7 lead over Murphy following a stunning display of long potting and composed break-building on Sunday.

But the 22-year-old got off to the worst possible start against the 2005 champion as he gave away a whopping 25 points in fouls during the first frame of Monday's session. After missing a red, Murphy then stuck Wu in a snooker behind the pink, and despite three separate goes, he missed every time, handing Murphy 12 points.

Attempts four and five also failed as Wu finally ended up giving up 25 points in fouls before he eventually nudged the red at his sixth go.

At that point, Murphy was 72-37 ahead, with one red left, and he went on to take the frame, moving to within two frames of Wu in the process.

And speaking on commentary, Dennis Taylor said: "This is a disaster. A bit of a nightmare end to this opening frame of this session."

While John Parrott said: "Shaun has done remarkably well to win that frame. He had a terrible run of the balls in that.

"This is the biggest day of Wu Yize's life, and he would have woken up this morning with a great lead, and this would have been a horrible time for him from breakfast until now. It's the worst time as a snooker player because you just want to start."

And Ken Doherty added: "For Wu, he wouldn't have played many frames like that in this championship.

"They can really put you out of your stride with all these misses. Frames like that can get you out of rhythm and it was very important for Shaun to win, Wu looked a bit nervous.

"Shaun Murphy would've loved to win the frame that way and he knows the importance of winning these scrappy frames to try to put pressure on the young man's shoulders."
