Daadi Ki Shaadi, Mortal Kombat 2: 7 Major Movies Releasing In Theatres This Week On May 8

While Riteish Deshmukh’s Raja Shivaji is wreaking havoc at the box office in week one, it is expected to face competition in its second week from as many as seven new releases in Hindi as well as English.

Interestingly, the week will see a new Sanjay Dutt starrer releasing on the big screen which will make it three releases for the actor in a span of nine days. On April 30, his Kannada movie KD The Devil release, on May 1 it was the Marathi movie Raja Shivaji and now on May 8, it will be the Hindi film Aakhri Sawal.

Directed by Abhijeet Mohan Warang, Aakhri Sawal stars Sanjay Dutt in the lead role alongside Mithun Chakraborty’s youngest son Namashi Chakraborty, Amit Sadh and marks the comeback of Sameera Reddy.

The controversial movie tackles the battle between a mentor and his protege. The protege publicly accuses the mentor of institutional bias after his thesis on RSS is rejected by him.

The comedy drama Daadi Ki Shaadi starring Neetu Kapoor, Kapil Sharma, Sadia Khateeb and R Sarath Kumar marks the debut of Rishi Kapoor’s daughter and Ranbir Kapoor’s sister Riddhima Kapoor Sahni.

It is directed by Ashish R Mohan and its official synopsis reads, “A lonely grandmother's social media mishap about an upcoming "marriage" creates havoc for her granddaughter's wedding, prompting Tony Kalra to mend deep family rifts.”

Starring Karl Urban alongside Jessica McNamee, Josh Lawson, Ludi Lin, Mehcad Brooks, Lewis Tan, Damon Herriman, Chin Han, Tadanobu Asano, Joe Taslim, Adeline Rudolph, Tati Gabrielle and Hiroyuki Sanada, Mortal Kombat IIis directed by Simon McQuoid and written by Jeremy Slater.

It is based on a video game of the same name and is a sequel to the 2021 movie Mortal Kombat.

Main Actor Nahin Hoon ( I Am Not An Actor)

Starring Nawazuddin Siddiqui, Main Actor Nahin Hoon also titled I Am Not An Actor is written and directed by Aditya Kripalani.

The movie also stars Chitrangada Satarupa and is about a “struggling actor in Mumbai who connects with a retired banker based in Frankfurt through online acting sessions. As their interactions deepen, they confront personal struggles, emotional challenges, and cultural differences while forming an unexpected bond across continents.”

The Sheep Detectives

Starring Hugh Jackman in the lead role, The Sheep Detectives is based on the 2005 novel Three Bags Full by Leonie Swann.

It is directed by Kyle Balda and also stars Nicholas Braun, Nicholas Galitzine, Molly Gordon, Hong Chau, and Emma Thompson with the voices of Julia Louis-Dreyfus, Bryan Cranston, Chris O'Dowd, Regina Hall, Patrick Stewart, Bella Ramsey, and Brett Goldstein.

The movie's official synopsis reads, “A flock of sheep set off to solve the mystery of who murdered their beloved shepherd.”

Directed by Ritwik Pareek, the movie is backed by Anurag Kashyap, Vikramaditya Motwane, Nikkhil Advani and Vasan Bala.

Its logline reads, “Mysterious events in the wake of a freak motorcycle accident sow the seeds of a new religion.”

Krishnavataram Part 1: The Heart (Hridayam)

Directed by Hardik Gajjar, the visually stunning Krishnavataram Part 1: The Heart (Hridayam) stars Siddharth Gupta, Sushmitha Bhat, Sanskruti Jayana and Nivaashiyni Krishnan.

The movie’s official story reads, “An epic devotional narrative that reimagines the journey of Lord Krishna, tracing his path from Dwarka to Kurukshetra after parting ways with Radha.”

Unlike other movies in this list, Krishnavataram Part 1: The Heart (Hridayam) releases in theatres a day earlier, i.e. on May 7, 2026.
