New Delhi: Royal Challengers Bengaluru batter Phil Salt has returned to England to undergo scans on a finger injury that has kept him out of their last three matches of IPL 2026.
The opener reportedly damaged a finger on his left hand while fielding in RCB’s home defeat to Delhi Capitals on April 18.
He sustained the injury while diving to prevent a boundary at deep backward square leg position at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium.
“Salt, who is centrally contracted by the ECB, has since returned home at the request of England’s management and has undergone scans on his finger,” ESPNCricinfo reported.
In his absence, compatriot Jacob Bethell has opened for RCB, who expect Saltto make a quick recovery and rejoin the time later this month.
In six matches of the ongoing tournament, Salt had scored 202 runs in six innings at a strike rate of 168.33.
Salt returned home at the request of England and Wales Cricket Board, who has a contract on him.
In case Salt is ruled out for the rest of the season, RCB would be allowed to make a replacement signing.
With six wins in nine matches, RCB are second in the points table behind Punjab Kings and face Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) in their next game on Thursday.
RCB lost their last game to Gujarat Titans, following which players took a break from training.
