On Embalam assembly seat (number 21) also All India N.R. E. Mohandos of Congress won. He got 16,017 votes, while Congress’s M. Kandasamy got 11,956 votes. Mohandos won the contest by a margin of 4,061 votes.
Bharatiya Janata Party’s A. on Mannadipet assembly seat (number 1). Namasivayam registered a big victory. He got 15,918 votes, while Congress’s T.P.R. Selvame got 9,808 votes. The BJP candidate won this seat by a margin of 6,110 votes.
It is noteworthy that elections were held for a total of 30 assembly seats in Puducherry. Voting on all these seats was held in a single phase on April 9.
To form the government, any party or coalition is required to get a majority of at least 16 seats. Apart from this, 3 seats are nominated by the Lieutenant Governor, who can play an important role in the formation of the government.
As per the trends so far, AINRC is leading on 5 seats, while its ally BJP is leading on 1 seat. Independent candidates are leading on three seats.
