New Delhi. During the ongoing vote counting in West Bengal, the trends are continuously coming in favor of BJP. This time, the results of some assembly seats are especially being monitored, one of them is Mothabadi seat of Malda district where the angry mob had taken the judges hostage. These judges were appointed by the Supreme Court for SIR work, including women judicial officers. According to the initial trends of the Election Commission, BJP is ahead from Mothabadi assembly seat. Here BJP candidate Nibaran Ghosh defeated TMC candidate Islam MD. Are on edge over Nazrul.

Let us tell you that seven judicial officers including three women were held hostage for about 9 hours and their vehicles were also vandalized. Taking suo motu cognizance of this matter, the Supreme Court had strongly reprimanded the Chief Secretary of Bengal, Home Secretary, Director General of Police and the local Superintendent of Police. More than 50 people were arrested in this case and it is being investigated by the NIA. Supreme Court CJI Justice Surya Kant had said that this was not only an attempt to intimidate the judicial officers, but it was tantamount to challenging the authority of the Supreme Court.

It is noteworthy that before the assembly in Bengal, a special intensive revision campaign of the counting list was started by the Election Commission. Its purpose was to review the voter list and include only the names of eligible people in the voter list. The Bengal government had opposed this. The government alleged that a conspiracy was being hatched to exclude voters from the voter list through SIR. There was a lot of uproar regarding this matter and the Bengal government had filed a petition in the Supreme Court against SIR.
