New Delhi: Legendary Manchester United manager Alex Ferguson was rushed to a hospital after feeling unwell before their English Premier League match against Liverpool.
The iconic former manager was at Old Trafford to watch the match from the stands, but had to be taken away before kick-koff.
It was later said that he was whisked away as a precautionary measure and not due to an emergency situation though no further update was provided after after his admission to hospital.
He was said to be doing “okay” by a person privy to the situation, as reported by the Associated Press.
The 84-year-old managed Man United for 27 years during a trophy-filled reign, and since his retirement in 2023 regularly watches them from the directors’ box.
Ferguson guided United to 13 EPL titles and two Champions Leagues during, winning 28 major tile during his long reign and retired after his 13th league title in 2013.
‘An honour’
Consultant cardiologist Dr Aseem Malhotra posted a picture on X posing alongside Ferguson.
“A privilege, honour and dream come true to be invited to spend some quality time with Sir Alex Ferguson ahead of the game against Liverpool today at Old Trafford,” he wrote.
Man United defeated Liverpool 3-2 to confirm their Champions Legue spot for next season with current coach Michael Carrick wishing his former manager Ferguson “all the best”.
“Hopefully when he hears about the result it will give him a good boost,” Carrick, who wo five EPL titles and a Champions League under Ferguson, was quoted as saying by BBC.
