Parno Mittra is set to attend Marché du Film later this month as part of the Spirit of the Wildflower team. The 90-minute docu directed by Shrimoyee Chakraborty will be showcased at the industry marketplace that’s held alongside the Cannes Film Festival .

The documentary follows real-life tribal siblings Ankita and Veenu from Kathiwada, Madhya Pradesh, who run India’s first legal mahua distillery. While Ankita dreams of taking the sacred brew global, Veenu hopes to transition and live as the man he truly is. The film foregrounds Adivasi communities and explores how colonial-era laws have long suppressed mahua — a resource with significant cultural and commercial potential.

Sharing the news on Instagram on Saturday, Parno wrote, “From the forests of central India to the shores of Cannes… we could not be prouder… Need your blessings as I step into the shoes of an executive producer for the very first time!!” Her post drew cheer from industry peers. Koel Mallick commented, “Go girl! Win the world,” while Subhashree Ganguly congratulated her. Chitrangada Satarupa quipped, “Yassss!!! Don’t forget to get me gifts.” Chakraborty added, “This film is ready for the world.”

Speaking to us, Parno said, “I’m glad to be part of this project and look forward to the fest," while Shrimoyee added, "It feels great—I’m hopeful and going with a great team. Taking a trans story that has never been told before from India’s heartland to a global platform feels like an important thing to do."

Mittra serves as executive producer alongside Radhika Piramal and Neeraj Churi. The project features cinematography by Rusha Bose, editing by Anadi Athaley, with co-editing by Vedant Joshi.
