Punjab recorded huge increase in revenue in April 2026, VAT and P.S.D.T. Double digit increase in receipts: Harpal Singh Cheema

Highlighting a major milestone in the revenue generation of the State, the Finance, Excise and Taxation Minister of Punjab announced here today that the State has recorded an impressive double digit growth in the receipts of both Value Added Tax (VAT) and Punjab State Development Tax (PSDT) in April 2026, taking a significant fiscal leap.

What did the Finance Minister say?

The Finance Minister said, “The state has successfully achieved a total additional revenue of about Rs 265 crore from these two sectors, a success achieved entirely due to better monitoring systems, strict enforcement protocols and a transparent tax administrative structure.”

Sharing details of this financial success, Finance Minister Harpal Singh Cheema said that the continuous upward trend in these special tax areas highlights the clear policy priorities of the Punjab Government led by Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann. The Finance Minister said, “I am happy to announce that our VAT receipts have registered a spectacular growth of 23.28% for the month of April 2026. This significant growth has resulted in a net addition of approximately Rs 230 crore to the state exchequer, reflecting our continuous improvements in tax administration and compliance.”

What did Cheema say on the state’s development tax revenue?

Elaborating on the contemporary success in the state’s development tax revenue, Finance Minister Cheema said the P.S.D.T. Gave details of the extremely positive trends observed in the area. He said, “Along with the strong performance in VAT, our PSDT collections have also grown by an impressive 20.43%. This growth rate has directly translated into an increase of approximately Rs 35 crore. These figures are a direct reflection of our improved monitoring and strict enforcement protocols within the sector.”

Finance Minister Cheema attributed this overall economic progress to the diligent implementation of advanced monitoring strategies and a strong commitment to fair governance. He said, “This strong performance in VAT and PSDT underlines our government’s focused strategy of combining technology-driven enforcement with convenience for proactive taxpayers. We have put in place a strong enforcement framework aimed at safeguarding government revenue. I assure the citizens of Punjab that strict action against tax evasion will continue and we will also ensure a completely fair and transparent tax system for all tax-abiding taxpayers.” Will keep.”
