The preparedness of the Agriculture Department to stop the cases of burning of crop residue in Haryana seems to be weak. This season, a record 476 cases of arson have been reported on Saturday. As part of the action, a total of 561 farmers have been given red entry so far.
After red entry, as per the rules, farmers are prohibited from selling their crops at Minimum Support Price (MSP) for the next two years. There were 644 cases of burning of crop residues in the neighboring state of Punjab on Saturday. So far, the highest number of 376 cases of burning of crop residues were found in Haryana on April 29.
There were 100 more cases than this on Saturday. There were 345 cases on April 27. Jind, Rohtak and Sonipat districts remain hotspots during the season. Maximum 102 cases of crop residue burning have come from Jind while 60 cases have been found from Rohtak and 45 from Sonipat.
