Actor Dananeer Mobeen has urged audiences not to label her upcoming film Mera Lyari as a response to another movie, saying such comparisons take away from its true message and depth.

Speaking at the UK Asian Film Festival held at BFI Southbank, Dananeer addressed comments suggesting that Mera Lyari was made as a reaction to Dhurandhar. She made it clear that reducing the film to a comparison with another project would be unfair. According to her, the story carries powerful themes that deserve to be appreciated on their own.

Dananeer explained that the film highlights the spirit of Lyari and showcases its rich culture. She said the story explores football culture in the area, especially women’s football, and focuses on the experiences of South Asian women in sports. She emphasized that the film brings attention to important social themes rather than competing with any other production.

The actor also shared that the film has many layers and should be viewed from a broader perspective. She encouraged viewers to watch it with an open mind and understand the different themes woven into the story.

Describing the project as a beautiful portrayal of Lyari and its people, Dananeer said the audience will truly understand its message once they see it on screen. Mera Lyari is set to be released on May 8.
