
Odia cinema has received a major theatrical boost with the release of Mantra Muugdha, a high-concept film that combines scale, ambition, and experimentation.
Directed by National Award-winning filmmaker Anupam Patnaik and backed by Amiya Patnaik Productionsthe film marks one of the most expansive releases in recent regional cinema.
Opening across 29 cities in Odisha—including Bhubaneswar, Cuttackand Rourkela—the film has also reached audiences beyond the state with screenings in Bengaluru, Chennai, Hyderabad, mumbaiand Pune.
A Haunted Palace Sets the Tone
A defining feature of the film is its atmospheric setting at the historic Dharakote Palace. Shot over nearly 45–50 days, the palace’s centuries-old architecture and eerie ambiance play a crucial role in shaping the film’s mood. Rather than serving as a mere backdrop, the location becomes an active narrative element, intensifying suspense and intrigue.
A Bold Genre Blend
Mantra Muugdha refuses to stay within conventional boundaries. It merges horror, comedy, mystery, and fantasy into a fast-paced narrative. The story follows three friends whose curiosity leads them to unknowingly awaken a dark force inside an abandoned palace.
