CSK Cruise Past MI as Ruturaj, Karthik Star in Clinical Chase; Mumbai's Playoff Hopes Take a Hit

Leading from the front, captain Ruturaj Gaikwad remained unbeaten on 67, while Karthik Sharma anchored the chase with a steady 54, as the duo stitched together a match-winning partnership to guide CSK home with 11 balls to spare.
Chasing a modest target of 160, CSK got off to a shaky start, losing an early wicket despite a dropped chance. Urvil Patel added a quickfire 24 off 12 balls to stabilize the innings before Gaikwad and Karthik took complete control on a tricky, two-paced surface.
The pair showcased maturity and patience, focusing on strike rotation and calculated strokeplay rather than aggressive hitting. Their unbeaten 98-run stand for the second wicket ensured there were no further hiccups, as CSK comfortably reached 160/2 in 18.1 overs.
This win marks CSK’s fourth victory in nine matches, pushing them to sixth place in the points table with eight points, edging ahead of Delhi Capitals on net run rate.
For Mumbai Indians, the defeat further complicates their campaign. With just four points from nine games, they remain in ninth position and now face a steep uphill battle, needing to win all their remaining matches and depend on other results to stay in contention.
Earlier, Mumbai posted 159/7 after opting to bat first. Naman Dhir was the standout performer with a fighting 57 off 37 balls, but the team struggled to maintain momentum after a promising powerplay.
CSK’s bowling unit played a crucial role in restricting MI. Anshul Kamboj led the attack with a three-wicket haul, strengthening his case for the Purple Cap, while Noor Ahmed chipped in with two wickets to keep the scoring in check.
Despite this morale-boosting win, CSK will need to maintain consistency in their remaining fixtures to secure a playoff berth, especially with two key home games still to come.
