Actor and comedian Mike Myers has revealed the reason behind his eye-catching green “Shrek” appearance at a recent Hollywood event, saying it was a special tribute to his longtime friend and co-star Eddie Murphy.

Myers appeared in full Shrek-style makeup while presenting an honour to Murphy at the American Film Institute (AFI) ceremony held on April 18. The unexpected look quickly drew attention from fans and media.

Speaking at the premiere of his latest film Michael in Los Angeles, Myers explained that the gesture was meant as a personal tribute. He said he wanted to do something fun and meaningful for Murphy, calling him “the best” and praising his contribution to entertainment.

He described Murphy as a “lovely man” and reflected on their long-standing friendship and creative partnership over the years.

Myers and Murphy are best known for their iconic voice roles in the animated Shrek film series, where Myers voiced Shrek and Murphy voiced Donkey. Their characters became one of the most popular duos in animation history.

At the AFI event, Myers highlighted Murphy’s importance to the success of the franchise. He said the films would not have achieved their global popularity without Murphy’s performance.

He praised Murphy’s character Donkey as one of the most memorable creations in animation, calling it a “masterpiece” and one of the standout roles of Murphy’s career.

Myers further said that Murphy’s acting style blends humour, emotion, and depth, making his performances unique. He described him as “funny, joyful, vulnerable, and loyal,” adding that Murphy remains one of the greatest entertainers in the industry.
